If it has been more than six months since your last login it's possible your account has been moved to ensure good experiences for more active users. You are still able to log in to your account and have full access to Innerstar University, however you may notice fewer users. If you'd like your account to be moved back, please contact Customer Service at 800-492-1068.
No. For security reasons, the two sections of the American Girl website are not related or tied to one another.
As you can imagine, it would be virtually impossible to list the names of every girl who enrolls at Innerstar University.
The website is designed for all communication between girls to be pre-scripted including the selection of Student ID’s. We want Innerstar University to be a safe place for girls to enjoy, so this type of messaging prevents the sharing of personal information.
While we may periodically change the name choices available, existing users cannot change the Student ID name selected during the initial enrollment process, so please choose your Student ID carefully during enrollment.
If you have forgotten your Student ID, please reference the enrollment confirmation e-mail your parent received from Innerstar University. This will provide your Student ID to sign in as a returning student. If you no longer have a copy of the e-mail please contact Technical Service at 800-492-1068 and have your Star Code handy. The code can be found in the Campus Guide that comes with the My American Girl doll.
Each My American Girl doll must be enrolled under a unique student ID. You will need a new student ID for each doll you enroll.
Your student ID cannot be changed after you enroll, so please choose a student ID and online My American Girl doll name carefully during enrollment.
The next time you visit, click on “enter here!” from the welcome screen, then enter the student ID and password you received when you first enrolled into the “Sign in” section of the screen.
First, make sure you are using the correct student ID and password. Your password is case-sensitive, so include any capitalization you used when you signed up. If you have forgotten your password, click on “Forgot ID/password?” and follow the steps to get a new one.
If you know your student ID and password and you’re getting the error message “Wrong username or password,“ your account is locked. Wait 10 minutes and try again.
Here are the steps to follow:
Click on “Forgot your ID/password?” just below the password field in the “enter here!” section of InnerstarU.com. You will be asked to enter your student ID. You will then receive an e-mail from us at the parent e-mail address on file with a link to reset your password. Set the new password to something more familiar to you.
If you remember your password but want to change it, visit the “Settings” area of your Yearbook. You will see a screen that asks for your new password. You are required to enter it twice to ensure you don't make a mistake. Be sure to choose a new password that is easy for you to remember, but difficult for other people to guess.
Important: Remember to keep your password a secret!
The enrollment of a My American Girl doll results in an online My American Girl doll that can’t be deleted. It is not possible for you to start over.
If you no longer wish to play at Innerstar University, feel free not to log in to the site. If you do change your mind, you are always welcome to come back. The online My American Girl doll you enrolled will be ready and waiting to play!
You will be logged out after a certain period of inactivity or when you close your browser—whichever occurs first.
There are two possible reasons you could be automatically logged out of Innerstar University. First, if you leave your computer for 30 minutes, you will be automatically logged out. This is done so that an online My American Girl doll’s profile stays the same. Second, if you have a slow computer or slow Internet connection, you may get disconnected. Unfortunately if this happens in the middle of a game, we are unable to help you recover any lost Stars.
Every My American Girl doll comes with full access to Innerstar University upon purchase. You receive two codes with the doll that enable you to bring her to life online so that you can explore the entire campus for an unlimited period of time.
A code may be distributed through select marketing materials that allows girls to gain full access to Innerstar University for a specific, limited period of time. This is known as visitor access, and enables girls to play with an online My American Girl doll on campus, plus gives them the ability to save their profiles for the duration of the established promotional timeframe.
Preview access is free and available to anyone who would like to sample Innerstar University. This access will include a choice of four online My American Girl dolls with limited capabilities and game play. Preview access allows you to play three games—Pom-Pom Power, Body Balance, and Help Desk Hubbub—and to visit the fitting room in Casual Closet (located in the Shopping Square) to try on outfits. Preview access also allows you to complete the first project that's assigned when you first land in your room. You are NOT able to buy items with the Stars you earn in games, change clothes, play all the games or activities, e-mail friends, review your yearbook, or complete all the projects that a registered student is able to complete.
Once you’ve purchased a My American Girl doll, you enjoy full access to Innerstar University, and there are no annual subscription fees to maintain this access.
American Girl reserves the right to modify, restrict access to, or discontinue innerstarU.com at any time, in its sole discretion, without prior notice.
We want everyone at Innerstar University to have fun and enjoy their experience! Please report any unfriendly behavior by sending an e-mail to techservice@americangirl.com with the subject line “<insert your student ID> - Innerstar University Conduct.”
Your Star Code is very important and should be kept in a safe place. Replacing the code may be possible with proof of purchase of a My American Girl doll. Please contact our technical service staff at 800-492-1068 for assistance.
Each My American Girl doll comes with a Campus Guide that contains a Doll Code and a Star Code, which are required for enrollment. If you didn’t receive a Campus Guide with your doll, please contact Customer Service at 800-492-1068.
Make sure you are entering your Star Code correctly. It should be ten characters long and can contain both numbers and letters. Make sure you are not trying to enroll another My American Girl doll with a code you have already used, as you can only enroll one doll per code. If you have not used the code and you are sure it is correct, please send an techservice@americangirl.com with the subject line “Star Code Help.”

Innerstar University is safe for girls and is compliant with CARU and COPPA, which are federal guidelines designed to protect children online. American Girl does not collect or share any personal information related to the girl at any time, and girls do not have any mechanism within the world to exchange this information themselves.
Much of the content in Innerstar University is adapted from school curriculum for girls ages 8 and older.
The purchase of a My American Girl doll is required to enjoy full access to Innerstar University. Each doll comes with a Campus Guide that contains a Doll Code and a Star Code, which are required for enrollment. On the welcome screen of innerstarU.com, click on "enter here!”, then in the “Enroll for the first time” section, enter your codes and begin the enrollment process.
Each user receives 1,000 Stars, a room to decorate at the Dream Décor store located in the Shopping Square, and full access to all of the activities at Innerstar University!
Each My American Girl doll comes with a Campus Guide, which contains a unique set of codes to enroll at Innerstar University. You may enroll multiple dolls using multiple codes, but you must go through the enrollment process one at a time. You can interact with only one online My American Girl doll at a time.
There is no limit to the number of dolls you can enroll at Innerstar University, but you need to enroll each one individually.
Our goal is to keep Innerstar University fresh and entertaining. Look for frequent updates and changes.
Once you’ve entered Innerstar University, go to the map and click on any location to explore or play games. Or simply walk around campus and click on a street sign.
The best way to find out what you can do in Innerstar University is to look at the Innerstar University e-mail, take on a project, or just start exploring!
Innerstar Guides provide guidance throughout campus. There are eight unique Guides, each with an area of expertise within the world to facilitate learning, issue Awards and Medals, and guide games and projects. Guides are identified on campus by their outfits, which are not available for purchase by others.
There are lots of ways! When you enroll your doll at Innerstar University, an Innerstar Guide™ will explain everything about campus and how to start exploring. There are more Innerstar Guides on campus to offer additional help. On campus, you can also click on the blue question-mark “Help” button at the bottom right of the screen to open details about the area you are in. Plus, in each game or activity, you can look for the “How to play” button for more information.
If you need help with a technical issue related to Innerstar University, please call Customer Service at 800-492-1068. Customers outside of the US should call 608-831-5210 and request to be transferred to Technical Service.
You can begin any game by going to the entrance of a door that glows and clicking on the game you would like to play.
There are all kinds of games! Adventure games, quiz games, and games just to have fun! There’s something for everyone!
You can see your scores on the exit screen at the end of each game.
Points are scores earned in games. Check out the High-Scores Kiosk in the Star Student Center to see how you rank.
Not all games are available for the “Invite a Friend” function. When you click on a game and there is an “Invite a Friend” button, you can invite a friend to play! If it does not have the button, it means the game cannot be played with a friend.
Yes. Just hit the escape button and you will be asked if you want to pause or exit the game.
If a game has music, you can turn it off by clicking on the speaker symbol in the upper-right corner of the screen.
Outfits and hairstyles have been selected for what makes sense for each game’s play. Just like you’d wear different clothes for different events, the same holds true at Innerstar University! Once you finish the game, your doll’s hairstyle and outfit will change back to what she was wearing before you started.
Because girls are always achieving high scores, their names are constantly being added to the “Daily High Scores” list. This means new names are always replacing old ones (the older high scores move toward the bottom of the list, and the newer ones appear at the top). When enough new high scores are added, your student ID will no longer appear. But you can get back on the list by achieving another high score!
Awards are issued at intervals throughout the games. As Awards are earned, award icons will be automatically added to the Awards page of each girl’s Yearbook.
Medals are awarded based on a girl’s demonstration of her own inner growth. When a girl has earned a high number of Awards, an Innerstar Guide™ will offer her a Medal Challenge—a quiz based on one of nine themes. Like Awards, any Medals earned by a girl will be automatically added to the Medals page in her Yearbook.
You can earn Awards and Medals by playing the following games:
- Bake Sale
- Body Balance
- Borrow a Book
- Bright Kites
- Dance Spectacular (multi-player game)
- Dive In!
- Game On! (multi-player game)
- Help Desk Hubbub
- Hike & Seek
- Horse Sense
- Jump for Gold
- Melody Maker
- Packing Pals
- Pet Play
- Pom-Pom Power
- Shadow Hands
- Special Delivery
- Starfire Regatta
Stars are earned when you complete levels within games. You can use Stars at the Shopping Square, where you can visit the hair salon, shop for clothing, update room décor, and more!
The best way to earn more Stars is to play the games more than once. There is no limit to how many Stars you can earn, so keep playing!
Although you do receive 1,000 Stars when you first enroll, there is no way to get free Stars. You need to play games to earn more.
The number of Stars you earn is different for each game and also depends on how well you play. The more levels you play, the more Stars you’ll earn!
In each game, Stars are awarded at the end of each level. Is it possible you didn’t notice that your Stars went up? The next time you play, be sure to note your Star balance before and after you play.
Once you are logged into a game, your turn is automatically counted, so unfortunately if you are accidentally logged out, we cannot recover your Stars. Sometimes during peak hours of use, your connection to the site can become unstable. We are constantly working to address the increasing demand so these situations won't happen often in the future.
You can do lots of things in her room:
- Play with a pet – If you have a bedroom with a pet bed in it, you can go to the Shopping Square and enter Pet Palooza to pet-sit an animal. When you go back to the room, you will find that pet next to the bookshelf. Click on the pet and play!
- Read a book – If you go to Starlight Library and try out the Borrow A Book feature, you will find any books you check out on the bookshelf, ready to be read and enjoyed!
- Change clothes – Visit the Shopping Square to purchase virtual clothes that will appear in your room’s closet. The online My American Girl doll can try on all of the clothes, then wear them on campus.
- Decorate – Head over to Dream Décor at the Shopping Square and pick a style of room that fits your personality!
- E-mail – Send a message to your friends on campus.
- Participate in Projects – Join one of the “scavenger hunts” around Innerstar University.
- Review your Friends List – Keep track of the friends you’ve made!
- Add to your Yearbook – Keep track of your progress on campus.
- Give your doll a new look – Change the online My American Girl doll’s hairstyle and add accessories like hats, earrings, glasses, and braces!
Go to the Shopping Square where the Dream Décor store is located. You can choose the style of room that matches the online My American Girl doll’s personality.
The only way to remove wallpaper or floors is to get a different room at the Dream Décor store in the Shopping Square.
There are several stores at the Shopping Square where an online My American Girl doll can try on or buy items with Stars, get a new look for her bedroom, or pet-sit an animal.
Go back to the online My American Girl doll’s room—her purchases will be waiting in the closet or on the vanity mirror!
Stars are only taken from your account when an item appears in the online My American Girl doll’s closet or on her vanity mirror. If you still don’t find what you’re looking for, you may have forgotten to click “I’ll take it” at the store. Or you may need to use the arrows at both ends of the closet to page through everything that is there.
Occasionally a store will have a featured item that’s offered at a reduced cost.
Some of the clothing found in the stores is available for purchase at the American Girl website. NOTE: You must be 18 years or older to place an order.
The Yearbook is a record of your progress at Innerstar University. Because a Yearbook is also about your personal growth on campus, some pages remain private only for you and aren’t shared with others.
You earn Awards and Medals for your Yearbook by playing games and taking on Medal Challenges.
Because a Yearbook is also about each girl’s personal growth on campus, some pages remain private and aren’t shared with others.
The “Scores and Achievements” page keeps track of what you’ve accomplished! You can also go to the Star Student Center and find the High-Scores Kiosk to see the daily high scores for each game in Innerstar University.
Projects are tasks or a series of tasks on campus—they’re a lot like online scavenger hunts. You can earn Stars or Objects by completing them.
To participate in a new Project, meet with an Innerstar Guide™ who will give you one.
There are several Projects available throughout Innerstar University, but just because you find them all one day, doesn’t mean there won’t be new ones tomorrow. There are always Projects that need to be done at Innerstar University!
It’s a way to show other girls on campus a little more about you—the things you like, where you’d like to visit, and more. The answer to the question is displayed on your student ID card.
We only ask you one question each week, but you can go to Starlight Library and answer as many questions as you like in the Help Desk Hubbub game!
Once selected, you will not be able to make changes to the online My American Girl doll’s name, skin tone, hair color, eye color, or freckles (if selected). You will be able to change her glasses, braces, earrings, and hair style.
You can change her personality and style in your Yearbook.
If you want to make new friends in Innerstar University, you can view someone’s student ID card when she’s walking on campus and click the “two-hand” button to invite her to be your friend. Once you’ve enrolled, you may receive “friend” invitations from others, as well.
If you don’t want to be on someone’s list, you do not have to accept her invitation. If someone does not want to be on your list, please do not send another invitation.
You can only invite someone to be your friend if you can currently see them on campus. If you try typing in the name of a friend that you cannot currently see on campus, you may receive a message stating “There is no one on campus by that name.”
You can invite someone to be your friend when you click the “two-hand” button on her student ID. You can also add her name to your Friends List and wait for her to accept the request. You have to already be friends with someone before you can send them an e-mail.
Currently there is no limit to the number of friends you can have on your list, but we strongly recommend keeping your list at less than 50 to more easily manage all of the communications among friends.
When you receive an alert on your “E-mail” button on the main screen, simply click on it to see a new message. Click on the message and reply to your friend! You can send as many e-mails as you want per day.
